Transparency versus Authenticity

I recently saw a quote on instagram.....because that's where most of us have been camping out during this pandemic. It goes like so; " Be Authentic with everyone,  Be Transparent with a few" Well, what it the difference? I define Authenticity as " not acting". No charades required. Not changing who you are based on the crowd you're interacting with. I don't belief authenticity has any bearing on the nature of a relationship. You should be as authentic with the stranger you just met as you would with your best friend. Meanwhile Transparency has to take into account the intimacy or lack of intimacy of the relationship or interaction. Transparency has to do with trust and privacy while authenticity has to do with the self respect you accord your own identity as a person. Authenticity has to do with operating in or out of the "closet". How do you inter-use/inter-change these actions in your relationships? Both ...

What I get out of it

I never make a decision without maulling it over on a walk or run.  That's when I do my best thinking.

Learn something NEW

When was the last time you learned something new? I was just thinking how since I left grad school, I have not learned a new skill, outside of work related procedures and protocols. It doesn't have to be something formal or work related. It could just be something fun, like learning how to cook a dish you have never tried before, learning to crochet, learning to braid your own hair, learning to ride a scooter, learnign to fly a drone, learning to swim, learning to bike, learning to mix drinks, learning a card magic trick to play kids, learning to paint, learning to blog, etc We have time NOW to learn something new.  My goal for the next couple of weeks will be to learn something new in the IT field. Like an introduction to information technology 101 and then based on what piques my interest, I will allow myself to dive down that rabbit hole. What will you be learning during this quarantine season? Drop me a message about it and let's cheer each other on. ...

Now cooking : Curry Goat with Potaoes

Being stuck indoors has given me time to play around in the kitchen more than I typically do as I spend a lot of my days travelling for work In an effort to take a break from all things chicken related, I decided to make some curry goat. There are a million curry recipes online and to be honest you can also substitute with whatever you have at home without needing to make new purchases. However, I think the main ingredients you need to have in order for your dish to be called curry goat is exactly that....CURRY SPICE + GOAT MEAT. Everything else is a matter of palate preference. Also at the beginning, I was going to boil my potatoes separately as my side dish instead of rice, but last minute I decided to just throw it into the curry sauce and call it a day. And so yeah, this is the end result. You can have it as is, or sometimes I just grab the sauce part without the potatoes and pour it over some rice. If you still want me to provide a recipe, send me an emai...

Thoughts on the run

Today, I listened to the minimalist podcast show while on my morning run. The conversation centered around technology and advertisement. And how advertisement especially online, is driven by all the data that's being collected on us based on what we consume. And this is my problem with online advertisement versus traditional media like tv or a bill board. Yes, I know that tradition media also places ads based on data. For example, they'll put laundry  detergent ads at mid day because there's a stay at home parent watching tv. And they'll put toy ads when they think parents and children are most likely to be home watching tv. BUT, to me, that is still not a personalized ad The ones that scare me, are the internet ads that are completely based on whatever data has been accumulated over time on the individual based on their internet usage. Those ones are scary because they know your weakness and they play to that, making it more difficult for you to break...

Book Review : Operating in the Courts of Heaven

I was gifted this book by a good friend who was aware of my interest around generational curses and blood covenants. I have been exploring the concept of how my life could be presently affected (cursed, ) by the iniquities of my ancestors. The author of the book, Robert Henderson, presents some really controversial points. The legal language of the book reminds me so much of the legalistic nature of the old testament. I was honestly exhausted and confused about his theories. Even though he quotes a lot of scriptures, it doesn't seem to be in their right context. I just didn't feel like it was biblically sound. It didn't "sit well" with me. I can't put my hand on exactly what it is that didn't "sit well" with me. This is where I have to put a disclaimer  that this is my personal opinion  and based on my own personal journey with my faith.  I felt like from a faith point of view, he was making things seem more complicated than th...

Staying healthy during the COVID -19 quarantine

1. Create a Routine Easier said that done. It's taken me close to 2 weeks to clear the mental fog and create a routine that works. Even now I still have to adjust my routine as needed to make sure am giving myself enough space to be unproductive without self-criticism. 2. Move There are so many resources on the internet for at home workouts. To the point where it can actually cause you decision paralysis. In those moments when you can't decide what workout to do, play some music and  just dance. Go for a walk. Go up and down your stairs if you have them. Jump ropes in the back yard. And if all fails you can never go wrong with a burpee + sit up + pushup combo. 3. Eat Healthy Being quarantined at home is not an excuse to eat unhealthy. As a rule of thumb, if you do not buy it and bring it home then you're not going to be tempted to eat it. As you go shopping for your family, make sure you're stocking up on fruits and vegetables. Include healthy substitutes for...
