For my friend's birthday celebration, we started the night with dinner at 730 Tavern, Kitchen and Patio on mass ave. Since I had already had an early dinner, I was there for the drinks, appetizers and dessert but when one of the guests was lovely enough to bring a cake for the celebrations, I settled for ordering just an appetizer, the calamari. It was a really nice space and I want to go back because apparently they have a Sunday buffet brunch for $17.... hello! And they'll be celebrating National Rum Day on Aug 16th...double hello! Elan released a tribute cd based on his rendition of the acclaimed artist's work. I had never heard of this amazing saxophonist until the night of the concert and I am already trying to figure out how to attend his next show in Boston (New Year's Eve ). ...

As a wellness coach and consultant , I travel a lot to meet with clients and to help with wellness fairs.  Which means during our busy season I am constantly on the road, spending more nights in hotels than my home in Boston. When I first started this job, I gained a lot of weight and basically "felt" unhealthy. This happened because I did not plan out my meals and will just grab something to go from a fast food. Eat out a lot at restaurants in the name of trying out local cuisines or eat in the car or eat at odds hours at night But my body quickly started protesting this unhealthy lifestyle. My stomach was constantly bloated and I just did not feel good. I also will consumed a lot coffee including outside of "work hours" for no reason. Even though my company reimbursed my meals expenditures (another excuse to eat out a lot), I knew I had to make some changes especially for my gut health. Boston Night market was basically a foodie's paradise. I thought I was ready to conquer all the different food trucks but with the night still young I HAD to wave my little white flag of defeat. . If you love food. If you love food trucks. If you love Asian- inspired cuisine. If you love k-pop performances. then you need  to attend next year's night market. And oh yeah, tickets sold out. Some of my friends could not make it to the event because it was a sold out event. See you there next year!

after reading his book,  Born a Crime I.  I have been misusing the quote " Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, teach a man how to fish, you feed him for a life time" Trevor talks about how no matter how much you teach the man, if you don't give him a fishing rod aka TOOLS OF SUCCESS, he's still not going to be able to catch the fish and feed himself for a lifetime. This is so true when it comes to breaching the opportunity gap between socioeconomic classes.  It's not just about motivating people to work hard* It's about combining their hard work ethics with tools such as academic/merit scholarships, internship opportunities, employment opportunities, small business loans for entrepreneurs, etc...... Without the fishing pole, there is no hope. This is the problem with Africa at large...too many brilliant students who have spent years memorizing text books but no opportunities of employment for them to put to use what they have....

It was a simple read like the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho I just didn't see or understand or have a revelations of any "deep" philosophical ideas in the book as some of the reviews suggested. Maybe I have to go back and reread it? Basically what I got out of it was that a young girl was in denial about her mother's passing. It doesn't say if she died by accident or if she was so depressed about being stuck on the island that she committed suicide by jumping off the cliff.  I wasn't clear on that point. And it makes sense to me that with one young married woman and an inattentive husband, that she will seek companionship in the arms of the only other bachelor on the island. I wish how that came about was explored in the story line. I guess as a lover of thrillers and suspense novels, I had high expectations based on the reviews I had read about the book.  And my expectations where not met. It was shortlisted for the Common Wealth ...
